Best Dressed Stars at the Emmys 2012!

Zooey Deschanel, Kerry Washington and Ariel Winter were tops!

The Emmys are as much about the dresses as they are about the awards. So, who was best dressed at the 2012 Emmys? Which trends will we be coveting for the next couple months? Click on any of these photos to see the looks up close!

1. Kat Dennings in Red

Kat Dennings looked absolutely stunning in her floor-length red gown and matching matte red lipstick at the Emmys. Kat has a curvy figure, so she was sporting plenty of cleavage, but I think it was absolutely in taste. Wearing her brown locks down in soft curls was an A-plus move. Whenever there's a lot of skin showing, I'm a fan of shoulder-grazing hair! Red was one of the hot colors at the Emmys this year, with Anna Gunn, Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Tina Fey all sporting shades of red.

2. Sarah Hyland's Old Hollywood Gown

Sarah Hyland continues to wow us on the red carpet with her gowns. Even though she's petite, she always manages to pull of a floor-length hem flawlessly. Her secret? To choose a fitted gown that hugs her silhouette all the way through (though high heels also help!) I love the touches of sparkle details around Sarah's shoulders and neckline. Emily Van Camp and Kate Mara also wore glamorous floor-length gowns in soft grays and blues.

3. Ariel Winter's Pretty Prints

Prints were a huge trend on the Emmy red carpet this year. Ginnifer Goodwin and Julianna Margulies sported gorgeous printed dresses, but my absolute favorite was Ariel Winter's. Her gown is actually made up of thousands of tiny sequins that form a gorgeous abstract pattern. Her dress is also a tea-length high low hem that has a bit of a train behind it, breathing new life into the high-low trend that we've been seeing over the past year and a half. I love that she wore her hair in a cute updo- it doesn't distract from her halter neckline.

4. Zooey Deschanel's Tiered Ruffles

Zooey Deschanel's ice blue Emmy gown was absolutely to-die-for, especially because of the tiered laser cut ruffles on her skirt! I love her fitted bustier top and the sweetheart neckline. It's a total princess gown, and perfect for a special night like the Emmys... or prom! Zooey's gown could almost be a vintage prom dress, especially with her dark lips and bouffant updo tying it all together.

5. Kelly Osbourne's One Shoulder Gown... and Pastel Hair

One-shoulder dresses are one of the it-silhouettes for fall 2012, but Kelly Osbourne takes her lilac gown to a new level by dying her hair to match! Katy Perry may have made purple hair huge this summer, but Kelly Osbourne absolutely owned the trend during the Emmys. Dyeing your hair for a huge event certainly takes guts, and I like her go-big-or-go-home attitude.

6. Sofia Vergara's Sparkles

Sequins, iridescent beads and light-reflecting metal... celeb after celeb sparkled on the red carpet. Lucy Liu, Jane Krakowski and Nicole Kidman all wore gowns that shimmered from every angle, but the real winner of this trend was Sofia Vergara. Her deep turquoise gown was stunning and fit her perfectly! It also featured a cut-out back and a body-hugging silhouette, which will likely continue to be huge prom trends for 2013.

7. Claire Danes in Yellow

One of the most surprising Emmy trends to emerge this year was the color yellow! More than a few celebs arrived in various shades of the hue, including Julianne Moore, Kaley Cuoco, and my favorite, Claire Danes. Claire has always been a little less formal than her celeb counterparts, opting for comfortable gowns over impossible silhouettes. Her Emmy dress was no exception... though I would have dressed it up with a statement necklace and a stack of bracelets.
