What to Wear on New Year's Eve

Sequins, red, or black on black? Get outfit inspiration for when the ball drops!

A New Year’s Eve outfit is one of my favorite looks to put together. Mine are always sparkly, definitely festive and give off the “I’m ready to take on the world!” vibe. When the countdown ends, the ball drops and you cheer (or smooch) alongside your friends, no matter where you are, you’ll want to look your best. Here are some totally amazing New Year’s outfits that I found on the red carpet. They’re easy to pull off and total outfit inspiration for ringing in the new year!

1. A Black Leather (or Pleather) Skirt

Kendall and Kylie Jenner each wore leather (or leather-esque) skirts to an L.A. event, and I’m loving the look for New Years. A leather skirt can be dressed up or down, paired with a ton of different tops and always looks rocker chic. Kendall looks a little more sophisticated in her shoulder-popping long sleeve top, slicked high pony tail and long necklace. Kylie, on the other hand, embraces the punk rock with her Misfits t-shirt and loose hair. Pair your shiny black skirt with black heels or booties and red lips, and you’ll be ready to go.

2. Red Shorts and a Sparkly Top

Taylor Swift looks especially festive for this holiday concert. She’s sporting her signature red lips and bangs, seasonably red shorts and a sparkly top that just screams Times Square ball drop! If it’s too chilly to wear shorts where your New Year’s party is, just slip on a pair of opaque black wool tights underneath. They’ll keep you super warm! Any sparkly top will do, though a fitted one like Taylor’s will show off your curves. Don’t forget the matte red lipstick to match your shorts!

3. Black on Black on Black

You can never go wrong with black, especially during the winter. Savanna Jade effortlessly pairs a black mini dress with a lace hem with a cropped black leather jacket and black knee-highs, and looks totally punk rock chic. A gold statement necklace plays off her jacket’s zipper and ties the whole look together. Add some kohl black eyeliner, gold eye shadow and mauve lips, and you’re ready to party.

4. A Sequined Dress

Want all eyes to be on you this New Year’s? Find a dress that’s covered in sparkles, beading or sequins, like this one that Khloe Kardashian has on. I’d personally spring for a sequin dress in a darker, bolder hue like black, navy or even gold, but hey, everyone has different taste. Sequins are always a wise choice for New Year’s, because they’re so very festive! Match your sparkly dress with a pair of neutral, non-sparkly heels, a matte bag and minimal jewelry. Let your dress steal all the shine in your ensemble.

5. A Long-Sleeve Romper

Hailee Steinfeld is practically a fashion guru at her age. For her wintery 16th birthday, Hailee wore this adorable long sleeve patterned romper. An outfit like this would be totally New Year’s worthy, because it’s so trendy! The 60s mod pattern is ahead of the trend, and I love how she paired a bright purse and heels with the look. It’s eye-catching, festive and forward-thinking… all musts for a New Year’s outfit!

6. Red on Red

Sandra Vergara looks oh-so ready for the ball to drop in her matte red lips and matching red cardigan. Red is always a holiday style win and you can’t go wrong with this hue. Whether it’s a red dress, red cardigan or red shorts, all eyes will be on your, especially when you match the hue to your lipstick!

7. A Flirty Accessory

Lucy Hale brought an unexpected accessory to this magazine party- a festive mask! I love the idea of bringing something like this to your New Year’s party… it gives your whole outfit an air of mystery, and can be a great flirty prop!
