A closer look at the anatomy of a classic tuxedo, from neckties to bowties to no ties.
Necktie
Previously reserved for business dress, the humble necktie has only recently turned into typical black tie attire. Daniel Radcliffe, who is no stranger to neckties, swaps Harry Potter's magic cloak for an equally smart suit.
Wear it if: the idea of wearing a tux makes you break a sweat; a low key necktie makes for an easier transition.
Bowtie
While it is the most traditional accessory for an elegant night out, the classic bow tie is endlessly irresistible. Jake Gyllenhaal shows that you can look dapper yet boyish, cool yet charming.
Wear it if: you're a traditionalist and you enjoy dressing up.
No Tie
Joshua Jackson may have forgotten his tie at home, but his style certainly isn't worse for the wear. Sans tie, a tuxedo conveys a paradoxical casual elegance on par with an above-the-knee "ball gown" for the girl.
Wear it if: you're wearing a tux against your will; if it was up to you, "dressing up" would be wearing a nice pair of shoes with your denim.
