Here's How:
- Set a budget
Once you have an idea of how many people will be traveling around in your prom group (narrow it down to three and five couples), talk to everyone about how much they will be willing to pitch in. Usually thirty to fifty bucks per person will cover a nice, no-frills limousine. Fancy variations, like stretch SUVs, can cost far more (several hundred per person).
- Do your homework
Compare vehicles and prices before you settle on a company. Most reliable dealers have detailed websites that provide valuable information. Things to consider include how much that shiny new limo costs, how long you're allowed to cruise around town, and how many decked out guests can fit in the back seat.
- Make the call
Call three to four weeks in advance, to make sure you can secure a limo. If you live in a small city with only a few dealers, plan on calling a month-and-a-half before prom night. Often times, several proms fall on the same weekend, and limos will be snapped up faster than that great prom dress you have your eyes on!
- Book it
Once you decide on a limo, book it. A deposit will most likely be required - expect to pay between 25% and 35% of the final balance. Before you sign anything, request a copy of the cancellation policy, rental contract, and reservation number.
- Follow up
Confirm your reservation a few days in advance. Make sure the driver has the correct address and route, to ensure that you and your group will be picked up on time and delivered to the prom promptly (now is not the time to try the "fashionably late" thing). Store the driver's cell phone number or an after-hours contact number in your phone.
