How To Rewear a Prom Dress for New Year's Eve

From , former About.com Guide

In a pinch, rewear last years' prom dress for your New Year's Eve celebration.
Difficulty: Easy
Time Required: An hour for primping

Here's How:

  1. Make it brief

Unless your prom dress is cocktail-length, the first step is hacking off that hem. If the permanence of cutting that gorgeous chiffon gives you the shakes, simply tack it up with sewing tape.

  2. Add layers

Layers give a chic bohemian vibe to any dress. Toss your dress over a thin T-shirt or scrunch on a pair of thick cozy tights. The Gossip Girls are always wearing fabulous stockings with their fancy dresses, so why shouldn't you?

  3. Bundle up

Add a hip topper. Everything from beaded cardigans to swing jackets to boyish blazers will keep you feeling cozy and looking divine. No need to invest in something new - your favorite sweater is perfect.

  4. Let it flow

Save the three-hour updo for prom night and opt for a casually elegant 'do. Loose curls or a simple ponytail look perfectly unfussy. An embellished clip or sweet bow headband provide a little extra spark.

  5. Bling is so last year

Tone down the jewelry. Chandelier earrings and dripping-in-diamond necklaces are gorgeous -- if you're walking down the red carpet. For an NYE soirée, stick with sparkly studs and a great cuff bracelet.

  6. Stand tall... in flats

Trade your heels for fancy flats. Sequined, bejeweled, and rhinestoned stilettos are just too much for ringing in the new year. Instead, wear your prettiest pair of flats. Even ordinary flats will do, if you have Grandma's gorgeous shoe clips handy.
